Use of the chat function
To enable you and the discussion participants to share information, a live chat feature has been integrated into the landing page, which allows you to submit questions and comments to them.

You can decide for yourself whether to do so anonymously or by using your name or a pseudonym. Entering your name or a pseudonym is voluntary; it is not required for participation in the discussion.
Your submissions and (if specified) your name or pseudonym will be stored for the duration of the discussion and then deleted from the chat log.

If your submission is included in the discussion, the name or pseudonym you have provided may also be stated in the live stream. As the live stream will be published on the BIS YouTube channel, this information may possibly be stored for a longer period.

Processing of your personal data for the aforementioned purposes is not a requirement of your participation in the discussion. However, content of your submissions may include personal data (e.g. personal details or opinions).

The processing of such personal data is required for the purposes of pursuing the legitimate interest of the BIS of enabling an interactive exchange of information in the context of live streaming and discussion. It is therefore permissible pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.

Slido
The live-chat feature is integrated into the website via the Slido tool.

However, Slido only permits access to the chat function if your browser or app is set to allow cookies to be stored.

The cookie issued by Slido collects and stores personal data (e.g. IP address, type of browser used, time and duration of access) to maintain the functionality of the live-chat feature and to identify accesses to the feature, as well as to the Slido system that are critical to system functionality. Slido is to be considered the controller of this data processing. The BIS has no access to these personal data.
You must provide your personal data to participate in a live chat and/or to follow a live stream. Access to either of these website features is otherwise impossible.

Accessing a live stream
Access to the live stream occurs via YouTube. When you access the live stream, your browser will set up a connection with the servers of YouTube. The Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation has no influence on the extent of the data collected by Google (the operator of YouTube) when using this service. Detailed information about the purpose and extent of data collection and processing of personal data by Google is available here.
